Hats on Parade 2: Easter Brings Out Colorful, Embellished Toppers on Fifth Avenue

NEW YORK—Brightly colored hats were spotted all along Fifth Avenue today. The annual Easter Day Parade and Easter Bonnet Festival was an opportunity to showcase elaborate hats and plenty took advantage of the occasion. An enormous yellow hat stood out, another was festooned with butterflies. The informal parade always inspires creative, contemporary takes on the tradition of hat wearing and this year didn’t disappoint. View more hats on Fifth Avenue here.

Hat design has always been a serious art. An exhibit currently on view at the Bard Graduate Center Gallery is featuring exquisite hats designed by milliner Stephen Jones and many others. “Hats: An Anthology by Stephen Jones” runs from Sept. 15, 2011, to April 15, 2012.
