AIGA/NY Marks 30 Years with Posters by Local Designers

NEW YORK—The AIGA National Design Center on Fifth Avenue is exhibiting a series of posters created by 30 local designers to mark the 30th anniversary of the New York chapter of the professional design association. As New York is a major design center, the participants include legendary figures in the world of design, such as Milton Glaser, Paula Scher, Mirko Ilic and Michael Bierut. The members were asked to design posters “capturing your personal experience with the AIGA NY chapter.” Many of the works are type-driven, but all are as varied in concept and aesthetic as their designers.

The poster exhibit is on view from June 1 to Aug. 1, 2012.

The posters are on display on the two main walls of the design center.

Michael Beirut’s poster is a mix-tape that features New York classics by the like of Ella Fitzgerald (“Manhattan” and “Take the ‘A’ Train”), Frank Sinatra (“New York, New York”), Stevie Wonder (“Living in the City”), Billy Joel (“52nd Street”) and Sara Vaughn (“Autumn in New York”).
