Meet Up: 9 Figures Gather in MoMA Sculpture Garden

NEW YORK—A rag tag group has gathered in the sculpture garden at the Museum of Modern Art. “Figurengruppe/Group of Figures” by German artist Katharina Fritsch includes nine sculptures with disparate references—religion, mythology, anatomy. A lemon yellow Madonna figure, stands shoulder-to-shoulder with a vibrant green St. Michael and a St. Nicholas rendered in a grape color. There is a black snake and a white skeleton foot among them too. The figures introduce a bright pop of color to the natural hues of MoMA’s garden and stand out among the more traditional metal sculptures that also claim the space.
